a/b do have expiration date. They do studies that determine the stability of the medication and guarantee the potency to the medication up to that date. By law Pharmacy are not allowed to put up for sale it after that date.
How ever recently medications that are store by the government within case of bio warfare have shown that their stockpile still have indistinguishable potency several years after expiration date. (however the medications are stored in conditions that are suitable for long shelf life. IE: temp control humidity control and exposure to pallid and I believe limitation to oxidation (air)

TOXICITY issue: Drugs do not only loose potency but surrounded by rare occasions can become toxic IE: tetracycline. expired Tetracycline can have toxic effect on kidneys and motivation renal failure
So discard all expired medications
